Read the whole chapter, but this chapter is also super weird. Focus on the parts about Soaphead Church’s interaction with Pecola. It is okay if you feel a little confused by it.
- What does it mean that Soaphead Church is a “clean old man”?
- Why does Soaphead Church say that his business is “dread”?
- What does Pecola ask Soaphead Church for? How does he “get” them for her?
- How does Soaphead Church justify what he has done to/for Pecola?
