1. Summarize what you read.
2. Explain why McBride included this chapter to follow the chapter on Dennis.

HW #3 Read Chapter 25 (due Wednesday-- this is a long chapter-- you might want to start it tonight!)
1. Why does Ruth bring up the subject of her burial/death? 2. How does James deal with the color boundary? 3. What affect does talking about her past have on Ruth? 4. How has Ruth stayed the same and her children changed? 5. How does Ruth act when she goes to visit Frances? Why do you think she acts like this?

Seniors Pd 6:
HW #9 You can find the text of "The Weary Blues" here.
Rewrite: Choose a specific literary element (e.g., theme, characterization, structure, point of view, etc.) or literary technique (e.g., symbolism, irony, figurative language, etc.)  used in "The Weary Blues". Using specific details from that passage, in a well-developed paragraph, show how the author uses that element or technique to develop the passage.
Write: Write a well-developed paragraph in which you use ideas from both Passage I ("The Weary Blues") and Passage II (Chapter 17) to establish a controlling idea about sadness. Develop your controlling idea using specific examples and
details from both Passage I and Passage II.
